Release

On 22 February 2019, the official trailer for the series was released.[12] On 8 March 2019, Netflix released all six episodes of the first season.

Reception

The first season received mixed reviews upon its release. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has an overall approval rating of 71% with an average score of 6.29/10 based on 41 reviews. The site's critical consensus reads, "After Life's first season teeters tonally between dark comedy and affecting drama, but Ricky Gervais' poignant performance illuminates new sides of the actor's talent". On Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, the series has a score of 57 based on 13 reviews.

Merrill Barr from Forbes said of the series, "Overall, After Life is one hundred percent a series to check out. It's the Ricky Gervais project people have been begging for, for a long time." Josh Modell of AV Club states that After Life is a "dreary, sarcastic self-pity party that also manages—in a magic trick perhaps only Gervais is capable of pulling off—to constantly point out its protagonist's intellectual superiority" and that "as a meaningful meditation on grief, is dead on arrival".

Bekaaboo: This New Psycho Stalker Thriller Will Keep You At The Edge Of Your Seat

Bekaaboo, starring Rajeev Siddhartha, Priya Banerjee and Madhusneha in the lead, is a mystery-thriller web-series has been launched today

ALTBalaji's upcoming series Bekaaboo, a psycho stalker thriller has created quite a stir amongst audiences lately. The trailer, which released a week ago, gave us a sneak peek into the world of a popular writer whose perfect life goes awry because of his urge to fulfil his desires. What unfolds is a series of mishaps between an author of erotica, and his obsessed female stalker.
Well, the wait is finally over as this much-awaited tantalizing thriller launched 10 episodes today for binge-watch, amidst immense excitement.
Rajeev Siddhartha and Priya Banerjee will be seen in the lead roles as Kiyaan and Kashti respectively, while the gorgeous Madhu Sneha Upadhyay looks very impressive playing the character of a progressive, yet culturally deep-rooted Indian girl.
After playing a rich brat in her recent family drama Baarish, Priya Banerjee will be seen playing the role of a seductive stalker, a complete departure from her previous outing. While Rajeev Siddhartha will be playing the role of a successful writer of erotic fiction, who on the surface is humble, self-effacing and charming but it's just a facade. Madhu Sneha Upadhyay is playing the role of a progressive Indian girl who has a traditional side to her and respects her parents, family, and customs. The makers of the show claim that the show is full of thrills, mystery and lies with lots of twists and turns, which will keep you hooked to your screens.
Commenting on his second outing with ALTBalaji, Rajeev Siddhartha shared, "Playing such a layered and multi-faceted character of Kiyan Roy has been an extremely fulfilling experience. This is my second stint with ALTBalaji and I cannot wait for the audience to see what we have in store for them!"
On her portrayal as the complex Kashti, the lead actress Priya Banerjee said, "I am super excited as the show is releasing today. I cannot wait for the viewers' response because it is very different from the roles I have done before. I am playing the character of Kashti, who is the most intriguing character of the novel, and the hardest one to play, in my opinion. It’s a complicated character but I am sure people are going to love and accept her."
Adapted from Novoneel Chakraborty's bestseller, Black Suits You, Bekaaboo is a thriller about a famous erotic novelist Kiyan Roy, who seems like the perfect boyfriend material for his lover Kashti. As his debut novel becomes a raging hit across India, he gets stalked by a fan of his who seduces him into sexual submission, leading to one misadventure after another. The engaging narrative takes interesting twists and turns as he tries to resolve the mysteries which have emerged due to his depraved deeds.
Speaking about his novel's adaptation for the digital medium Novoneel Chakraborty said, "I am excited that 'Black Suits You' is airing on ALTBalaji as Bekaaboo. I believe this adaption will take the novel to the next level and give viewers a sublime mix of thrills and erotica in a combination that they haven't experienced before!"
Will Kiyan be able to get out of the trap and come clean, or will the series will present another twist in the plot? Catch the trio in action on ALTBalaji now.

Halifax-shot Web Series I Hear You Puts Spotlight On Women’s Health Issues

Halifax-shot Web Series I Hear You Puts Spotlight On Women’s Health Issues

Director Koumbie, left, and producer and show creator Amy Trefry go over the shoot list as they film on Quinn Street in Halifax. The shoot was for the web series, I Hear You, a recipient of Telefilm’s Talent to Watch fund. Each episode of the medical drama introduces a different woman, from puberty to menopause, who each struggle with sexual health issues. - Eric Wynne
In a cramped first floor flat in Halifax’s west end, every room is a hive of activity as the 20-member crew of a new web series manoeuvres the camera and lights while trying to avoid stepping on each other’s toes.
With one narrow hallway from the front door to the rear kitchen, it’s not an easy task, and at the centre of it all is the multi-talented Amy Trefry, a creator of the 10-episode dramatic series I Hear You, which debuts in mid-September. Besides writing and producing — working with co-creators Koumbie and Siri Bright and director Chelsea Innes — and starring as Dr. Alyssa Hartt, a young family doctor trying to bring a fresh perspective to the world of women’s sexual health.
Each episode presents a new case, from women in the early stages of adulthood to the sudden onrush of menopause, with the first season adding up to “10 out of a 100 topics that aren’t being talked about in public,” says Trefry over the cast and crew lunch break.
“But they are being talked about in private, and there’s a deep need to talk about them.”
Funded by Telefilm’s Talent to Watch Program for emerging filmmakers, the web series will cover a wide range of topics, from women feeling underserved by an overworked and sometimes antiquated health services system to Dr. Hartt’s desire to combine tried and true Western medical practises with Eastern holistic techniques.
Trefry, who’s been featured on the CBC-TV series Mr. D as well as in the Seth Smith films The Crescent and the upcoming Tin Can, says the idea for I Hear You took root two years ago when she was dealing a health issue of her own. Due to the rare occasion of this topic coming up in conversation, she wondered why there’s a general reluctance to discuss women’s sexual health in a wider context.
“I asked a group of about a dozen women to come over to my house, and asked if they would speak freely about not only sexual health, but also intimacy and sex in general,” she recalls.
“Then I just sat back for about eight hours and listened, and realized that this need for a space to talk about these things was really deep and people needed to have that opportunity.”
That evening of discussion expanded into almost 100 hours of interviews with women from across Canada, from all demographics, as Trefry sought to find a way to fictionalize and dramatize their stories for as wide an audience as possible. Through these conversations, she also received a lot of feedback on gender bias in medicine, which she views as skewed towards men and less inclined to properly diagnose or treat all patients who identify as women.
By talking to such a broad sample, she got a sense of the most common problems women in the health care system struggle with, but also some of the less common issues that are even more buried, to demonstrate women’s shared experience across the board in trying to be heard, as well as treated.
“Not being able to talk about it creates feelings of guilt, embarrassment and shame, that are still very much there, even when you do have a chance to talk about it,” she says.
“I repeatedly tell people I had my own health experiences, but over the past two years of working with women and getting ready to do this show, I still haven’t publicly talked about my own experiences because there’s still so much shame and guilt around women’s health, women’s sexual health, intimacy and sex, particularly for femmes.”
And as Trefry points out, there’s a ripple effect that’s created since no medical issue exists in a vacuum. A problem with one’s physical health can lead to mental health issues like anxiety and depression, family disruptions or feelings of isolation, and lack of access for those in rural areas.
Kayla Flinn, left, first assistant director and producer and show creator Amy Trefry go over the shoot schedule as they film on Quinn Street in Halifax. The shoot was for the web series, I Hear You, a recipient of Telefilm’s Talent to Watch fund. Each episode of the medical drama introduces a different woman, from puberty to menopause, who each struggle with sexual health issues. - Eric Wynne
The timeliness of I Hear You feels magnified right now as a legal war over women’s reproductive rights is being waged across the border, and looms larger at home, making the importance of getting these issues out in the open that much more urgent.
“It’s about control,” says the filmmaker of increased challenges to Roe vs. Wade in the U.S. “When you’ve got the highest illiteracy rates, child poverty and mortality, shootings in schools, the death penalty ... you can’t tell me it’s about the value of life.
“With everything that’s happening in the States with abortion laws, we have to look at the idea of access. A couple of years ago I read an article by a woman in rural Nova Scotia about her experiences. Even though it’s available here, availability and accessibility are two very different things.”
Trefry likens the experience of many women in the current health system as similar to constantly finding out that your flight is delayed. Nobody takes responsibility for it, and nobody seems able to step up and fix it.
“But when you finally find that customer service agent, you’re going to tell them exactly how you feel about what’s happening to you. I think women need that, and I think we can be that space,” she says.
“Even though we’re not the medical system, we’ll take that. Give us that fear and anger and frustration and those years of suffering and pain, and being ostracized and pushed away. Let us make you feel heard, even though we can’t fix what’s happening.”
Even though I Hear You’s episodes won’t appear online until September, the web series already has a website — www.ihearyouseries.com —and blog up and running, with a podcast waiting in the wings to discuss the show’s topics in greater depth, and other available resources that viewers can turn to for a real world connection to the stories the series is telling. It also has a presence on Facebook and Instagram, and a YouTube channel with production updates.
As Trefry and her collaborators — including a crew that is 80 per cent female — worked on picking which stories to tell, the ideas for ways to make the online series part of a greater resource network came just as quickly, and they can’t wait to put them into practise this fall.
“It snowballed, for sure,” she says. “The Telefilm Talent to Watch Program has a requirement for a discoverability plan, which was a great thing for us because I wanted to have as many platforms for communication as possible.
“Even though it’s a drama, and scripted, we get asked all the time if it’s a documentary because the subject is so real to the life so many women are living.”
Kayla Flinn, first assistant director calls for quiet during filming on Quinn Street in Halifax. The shoot was for the web series, I Hear You, a recipient of Telefilm’s Talent to Watch fund. Each episode of the medical drama introduces a different woman, from puberty to menopause, who each struggle with sexual health issues. - Eric Wynne

Medically Yourrs: Take A Peek Into The Lives Of This MBBS Batch On ALTBalaji

Medically Yourrs is streaming now on ALTBalaji.

ALTBalaji’s much awaited web series Medically Yourrs is out now. The series showcases the struggles of medical students, the challenges, the pressures of not just performance but simply surviving and what it really takes to be a doctor.
After the first look of the show was revealed last week, it became the talk of the town. Audiences have been eager to watch new content.
After TVF’s Kota Factory that highlights the life and daily struggles of IIT aspirants, streaming platforms are experimenting with realistic content. Amazon Prime too launched a show on the malpractices of selling medicines/drugs illegally recently.
Medically Yourrs will reveal the real picture behind the haloed lives of MBBS students.
The 10 episode mini-series is a medical college drama that revolves around Abir Basu, played by Shantanu Maheshwari. Born in a family of doctors, he lives under the immense pressure of proving himself worthy in their eyes.Nityaami Shirke plays the role of Nibedita, a total geek who is complete contrast to the character she had played in ALTBalaji’s PM Selfiewallie.
Other characters are Vishesh, who aims to be a doctor anyhow, Lolly, who is the narrator of the show, and Pallav, a state topper but has put tremendous pressure on himself. All are together fighting the battle of trying to sail through the final year of MBBS.
On playing protagonist Abir, Shantanu, who began his career as a child artist, shared, “This is a very different character that I am playing. Abir has actually given me a glimpse into the real life of medical students, something I have never even imagined. I’m very excited about the web-series as I am taking up an acting project after long, something I was actually missing. I had a great time working with the entire cast and crew. The entire unit has been very hard working and the off-screen chemistry between the entire cast will definitely reflect on screen.”
The show aims to present a world that actually exists behind the towering walls of medical colleges.
The show also features actors Bijay Anand, Shubhaavi Choksey, Ivan Rodrigues in pivotal roles.
Medically Yourrs is streaming now on ALTBalaji.
